How should we be living in these last days?

There is a verse found in Ezekiel 33:10 where we read “If our transgressions and our sins lie upon us, and we pine away in them, how can we then live?” In 1976 Francis Schaeffer in cooperation with his son Franky Schaeffer wrote a book How Should We Then Live? which was also produced as a film and television series. It was a book that tracked the rise and decline of western thought and culture. The concluding thought of this book was, “This book was written in the hope that this generation may turn from that greatest of wickedness, the placing of any created thing in the place of the Creator, and that this generation may get its feet out of the paths of death and may live.” In 1999 Charles Colson wrote a follow-up book How Now Shall We Live? After 487 pages he concluded with, “How now shall we live? By embracing God’s truth, understanding the physical and moral order He has created, lovingly contending for that truth with our neighbors, then having the courage to live it out in every walk of life. Boldly and, yes, joyously.” Many other books have written on a similar theme and I am now writing a book Make America Christian Again. The Lord continues to raise up those who would call the Church to fight the spiritual warfare that is before us, as we read, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore,” (Ephesians 6:12-13ff). We make our stand with shoes that are the gospel of peace. The gospel is the place where every one of our arguments must conclude, but we must make our arguments with the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. Pacify Christianity is not working, it is time for the Lord’s people to get off their seats, onto their feet and into the street. We need to take the Word of God and make a stand against the evil of our day and for the Gospel which is the solution for all things.
